When pencil drawing, we can conjure up all sorts of different environments including fantasy lands and mythical beasts. Our ability to create whole new worlds equals those of writers and this ability is a gift that we should nurture.

Pencil drawing takes a lot of practice however, if we are to create wonderful visions of far away lands and creatures that live within them, we should aim to create those pictures which summon up awe and wonder in those that view our work.

To be able to draw these mythical beasts we should do the following:

1. Be able to conjure strong images of those beasts within our own minds, this is extremely important as we will then be able to portray these images to others.

2. We need to be able to plan our fantastical drawing and see it from start to finish and plan each stage so that it becomes 3-dimensional.

3. Choose the correct pencils for the project and practice with different techniques to be able to produce the most realistic images. Pencil drawing is suitable for all to try and in a very short space of time; the new artist can be creating drawings of some caliber.

4. Consider the size of the drawing. Smaller size paper makes it harder to draw so consider just how detailed you wish the result to be. Always have an eraser near by in case your pencil drawing goes awry.

5. Choose your mythical beast, whether Unicorn, Dragon or perhaps one of your own designs.  Practice drawing your chosen beast before you start on the actual drawing.

6. If copying the picture from elsewhere, remember to focus on those images so that your own picture is drawn in a relaxed freehand style.

7. Remember to not become despondent if your drawing does not come out as well as intended. Pencil drawing takes a great deal of practice, time, and efforts and when planning a fantasy drawing, it also takes a great deal of vision.
