When painting it can be fairly easy to suddenly feel that your creativity has dried up, even if you actively enjoy painting as a hobby, sometimes inspiration just cannot be conjured up at will. For a creative person, this is obviously very frustrating but there are however, simple ways to avoid feeling stale or of feeling a creative overload and these are as follows:

1. If painting is becoming a chore rather than an enjoyable process, it may be that you have overdone it in recent times. Don’t force it, just take a little bit of time out and give yourself a chance to replenish the creative batteries. Listen to music, watch your favourite TV programs and just let any frustrations go. Alternatively, listen to a guided meditation CD and just focus on the narrator’s voice and the soothing music.

2. Go for a walk. Enjoy the sensation of the wind on your face, or the warmth from the sun. Just enjoy your surroundings and try to relax. Remember that art is a visual representation of the world today and your painting will be your translation of that data as it is perceived by you. See the beauty all around you and it will not fail to inspire you.

3. There are lots of other creative pursuits available within the artistic umbrella as such and it may be worth trying something new. Never be afraid to experiment with new mediums and to have fun with drawing or painting. You can become very stale if you become stuck in a routine and after all, art is all about the creative process as whole and experiencing new challenges.

4. Have a think about a painting you may have already done but felt you could have done better, and when the urge to paint starts to strike again, why not having a go at red-doing a previous painting? Use different colours to evoke different emotions. Free your mind and just enjoy the sensation of creating, whatever the outcome.
