Fabric Painting – Getting Started With Fabric Painting

painting No Comments »

Fabric painting is the most customized work of art. The artist is at liberty to use as canvas any textile and for whatever purpose, whether a towel, apron, or casual attire, you can fit it in with a fabric painting.

Ideally, cotton fabrics will be used in this variety of painting and importantly, it must not be loosely weaved for it will percolate in other threads, giving you a staggered, smeared painting.

When you start putting your paintbrush on the cloth, the water-based paint starts to spread over the cloth, that is why, 100% cotton is recommended because it immediately absorbs, and the design then becomes stable.

Due to the tendency to spread over the cloth, you can coat the initial paint with a primer and allow it to dry. The effect of which is that it is, as if there are no threads and spaces with which it can spread. It works like a paper.

First wash the fabric you wish to paint on in order to prevent wrinkling in the surface, it might be difficult to paint on it. It is advisable to dampen the cloth so that it will be vivid which colors are best applied in it.

Dampening the cloth will hearten the flowing of colors. Like any other painting, stenciling is always necessary, if not, best. A slick fabric print is specially designed to give and burnished and glistened appearance, while a puffy fabric paint gives you the embossed result on the cloth.

Dampen cloth and sprinkle colored paints in indiscriminate manner in areas you prefer to be painted. Speed up the drying of the paint by dry-blowing it.

Until it is dry, spray water all over the cloth and apply the second layer of colored paint. In this stage, you can already apply the rock salts or alcohol to give you dark spots and stronger edges.

You can be creative in the artwork by using other objects in stamping off on the cloth. Leaves, grains, sponges may be used in order to give the design you want. Leaves are the most common.

All you have to do is paint the leaf and place it on the cloth until it leaves a mark on the fabric. If you are working on a t-shirt, place a cardboard under the first leaf of fabric to prevent the paint from being contaminated in the other parts of the shirt, and from sticking on it.

Marbling is one good technique in fabric painting. It is done by sprinkling considerable amounts of paint, allowing the paint to drift on the cloth. The artist is free to move the foundation or the cloth in either direction creating an abstract design.

Use it with a combination of brilliant colors to give it a festive look. Dye Painting is a more popular technique in fabric painting. Dye may directly be applied on the fabric, or you may opt to dissolve it first in water before it is applied on the cloth.

To give the dye a paint-like outcome, thicken it with an insoluble colloidal acid.

Acrylic retarded are composed of glycol additives, so acrylic painting becomes workable until it is totally dried up. When the acrylic paint dries up, it becomes permanent and addition of water will not re-soluble.

Acrylic paints are more flexible on whatever working at environment it is in. It can be made on a canvas, fabric, wood, or paper. However, with respect to wood surfaces, because it is porous, it needs to be primed first.

However, aesthetically, it works at advantage on a transparent surface. Instead of using the conventional paintbrush, explore beyond the bounds of painting by sprinkling or pouring the paint on one area and incline and tip it on different directions.

Combine as many colors as possible, but if you prefer simple colors, do it in one or two colors. It is not impossible to create a realistic image using acrylic paints. The best thing to do to arrive at this reflection is to brush light paint onto the surface. Because it is light, it creates a supple and elastic feature.

It will likewise reveal the lower layers. For a watery texture, what need to be added is a sufficient amount of water. The less amount of water added, the thicker it will appear.

While acrylic painting tends to put off and deject color mixing, it nevertheless is the most permanent painting.

It cannot be subjected to any discoloration until after 50 years, contrary to other types of painting. Being the newest painting variety, it is not restricted to the conventional mediums of painting.

It welcomes other foreign objects such as chalk or charcoal above and beyond the acrylic paints, not to mention sand, sequins, or pasta. However difficult is the application of paint, many artists favor its usage due to its versatility. It can be applied thickly for a strong exterior or in glazes to mimic an original view.

Other painting media can be used to add texture, or flexibility of the acrylic painting. Examples of another medium used are varnishes and topcoats to make the painting glossy and lustrous.

These paints can also be used in matte after coats. The top layer scratching technique is one of a kind in this kind of painting. It includes scratching the semi-wet layer of paint in order to expose the color underneath.

This is unique because while a dominant color is present in one area, it does not rule out other colors mixed in the same area.

This is specially designed due to the vulnerability of the paint easy-drying which makes it impossible to easily mix and match the colors.
